Ans. At first, the rain made Lencho happy because his crops needed water. But soon the rain turned into a disaster when hailstones began to fall. The hail destroyed the corn plants completely. Lencho’s fields were ruined and there was nothing left for his family to eat.
(b) What did Rajvir see on the way during his car journey to Dhekiabari?
Ans.During his journey to Dhekiabari, Rajvir saw beautiful tea gardens spread like green carpets on both sides of the road. He also noticed tea pluckers plucking tea leaves, factories processing tea and rows of tea bushes which made the journey pleasant and interesting.
27. What type of life does Amanda wish for? Explain giving an example.
Ans. Amanda wishes to live a free, peaceful and independent life. She does not like being constantly instructed by elders. For example, she imagines herself as a mermaid living freely in the sea or as an orphan enjoying silence and freedom without any restrictions.

Ans. The poem describes the struggle of trees to free themselves from human control. It highlights the importance of freedom and nature. Trees moving out of the house symbolize women’s desire for independence and a return to their natural place in the forest.
(c) The Tale of Custard the Dragon
Ans. The poem teaches that true courage is shown in action, not in words. Though Custard appears timid, he proves his bravery by killing the pirate. The poem humorously shows that appearances can be deceptive and real bravery is often hidden.

Ans. Hari Singh returned to Anil because his conscience pricked him. He realised that Anil trusted him and was teaching him honestly. He wanted to live an honest life and gain education, so he returned the stolen money.
(b) Why was Ausable confident that Max would never return?
Ans. Ausable was confident that Max would never return because Max fell to his death while trying to escape through the window. There was no balcony outside the room, so Ausable knew Max could not survive.
30. Answer any one of the following in about 60 words:
(a) Why did Bholi at first agree to an unequal match? Why did she later reject the marriage?
Ans. Bholi first agreed to the unequal match because her parents felt she was ugly and stammered, so no one else would marry her. Later, she rejected the marriage when the bridegroom demanded dowry. She gained confidence through education and chose self-respect over marriage.
(b) How did a nursery book ‘Mother Goose’ save the Earth from a Martian invasion?
Ans. The nursery book Mother Goose saved the Earth because the Martians became weak after reading it. The rhymes contained germs harmless to humans but deadly for Martians. As a result, the Martians died, and the Earth was saved from invasion.
