Instructions:

i) First 15 minutes are allotted for the candidates to read the question paper.

ii) All questions are compulsory.

iii) This question paper has two Parts – Part-A and Part-B.

iv) Part-A consists of 20 multiple choice questions of one mark each that have to be answered on OMR Answer Sheet by darkening completely the correct circle with blue or black ballpoint pen.

v) For Part-A read the question-wise instructions and mark your answer on the given OMR Answer Sheet only. Do not erase, cut or use whitener on the OMR Answer Sheet after answering.

vi) Marks of the questions are mentioned against them.

vii) Part-B consists of descriptive type questions of 50 marks.

viii) All the questions of Part-B are to be attempted all at a time.

ix) Start from the first question and go up to the last question. Do not waste your time on the question you cannot solve.

Therefore, one should give up idleness and having girded up one’s loin should try to ascend up the hill to success.

Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in our school. The school building was beautifully decorated with tricolour flags and balloons. The programme began with the hoisting of the national flag by the Principal, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Many cultural programmes like patriotic songs, dances and speeches were presented by the students. The Principal delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the importance of freedom and unity. In the end, sweets were distributed to all the students and teachers.

Regular exercise is an essential part of a healthy life. In today’s busy life, people often ignore physical activities, which leads to many health problems. Exercise helps us maintain both physical and mental fitness and improves our quality of life.

Daily exercise keeps our body active, strong and energetic. It improves blood circulation, strengthens muscles and increases stamina. A physically active body can work efficiently and does not feel tired easily.

Exercise reduces mental stress and tension. It refreshes the mind and keeps us cheerful and happy throughout the day. It also helps in controlling anger and anxiety.

Lencho had great and unshakable faith in God. When his crops were destroyed by hailstorm, he did not lose hope. He wrote a letter to God asking for help and believed that God would surely send him money. When he received money, he never doubted God but blamed the post office employees for the shortage. This shows his strong faith in God.

b) Who was Nelson Mandela ? What ideals did he set out for the future of South Africa in his inauguration speech ?

Nelson Mandela was a great leader and the first black President of South Africa. In his inauguration speech, he spoke about equality, freedom and unity. He promised to end racial discrimination and build a democratic nation where all people would live with dignity and peace.

Mrs. Pumphrey was responsible for Tricki’s poor condition. She overfed him with rich food and did not allow him to exercise, which made Tricki fat, lazy and ill.

b) Why it was not an easy task to rob Anil for an experienced thief like Hari Singh?

It was not easy to rob Anil because he was simple, careless and kind. He did not keep much money and trusted Hari Singh completely, which made stealing from him difficult.

10. Answer any one of the following in about 60 words:

a) Write a character sketch of Hari Singh.
Ans.
Hari Singh was a clever but dishonest boy who earned his living by stealing. He was experienced, quick-witted, and smart. Despite being a thief, he was emotional and had a sense of justice. He had courage, intelligence, and wit, which helped him succeed in tricky situations. His character shows a mix of mischief and cleverness.

b) Describe the most important character of the chapter ‘A Triumph of Surgery’ Tricki, in detail.
Ans.
Tricki was a pampered pet dog of Mrs. Pumphrey. Overfeeding and lack of exercise made him fat, lazy, and sick. Despite his poor condition, Tricki had a strong will to live. Under the care of the vet, Dr. John, he gradually regained health, strength, and energy. Tricki represents patience, recovery, and the importance of proper care.
